This Week's Box: February 25, 2019

Minneola Tangelo
Twin Girls Farm, Dinuba, CA
The Tangelo is a cross between a mandarin and grapefruit. Its skin is easy to peel and its flesh is a deep orange, tender and juicy with a rich and sweet tart flavor.

Sanguinelli Oranges
Frog Hollow Farm, Brentwood, CA
Spanish Sanguinelli blood oranges have a round to ovate shape, and their medium-thick, orange rind is often blushed with varied shades of red. Both the rind and inner flesh deepen in color from a pale orange to burgundy with exposure to cold temperatures. The flesh is juicy and nearly seedless, and the balanced flavor is both sweet and tart with hints of cherry or raspberry.

Pink Lady Apples
Smit Farm, Linden, CA
Pink Lady Apples are a cross between the Golden Delicious and Lady Williams. They are a crisp and juicy apple with a tart finish. Pink skins and a creamy white colored flesh that resists browning make this an excellent apple for salads and slicing.

Fuji Apples
Smit Farm, Linden, CA
Fujis are a cross between Red Delicious and Ralls Janet, an heirloom apple dating back to Thomas Jefferson. They are one of the sweetest variety apples around making them a household favorite.

Hass Avocados
Churchill-Brenneis Farm, Ojai, CA
Creamy in texture, nutty in flavor, with a small to medium seed. The Hass skin is easy to peel and darkens from green to purplish-black as it ripens.
