Farm Focus: Going Solar

We are going SOLAR! It's been a long time in coming, with previous attempts derailed for various reasons, but, we are feeling very confident that our intention to use the sun's energy to produce power for our farm is going to become a reality.

We have a loan and contract in place but we are in the final stages finalizing the building permits necessary to move forward with construction.  Assuming all goes well with permitting, we could be breaking ground in early November to install one acre of solar panels! We anticipate the energy we generate from the solar array will offset all of the energy use on the farm including coolers, freezers, kitchen equipment, packing lines, and lights.

For those of you who have come to our annual Summer Pick and Jam, you may be sad to hear that the panels are going to be placed across from the veggie garden and fruit drying yard where the Flavorcrest and Redtop orchard currently stands, and where we typically hold the peach U-pick...But you can feel even better about biting into each piece of our fruit knowing that the environmental impact of getting it into your boxes has been significantly reduced. Plus, a little extra walking never hurt anyone.
